The Materials Manager heads all planning, buying, and inventory control functions at Sleep Number's Irmo, SC manufacturing facility. This Manager will lead the material/production planning and inventory control teams, as well as assist the Director of Materials Management to continually improve and standardize the materials management function. Further, this role will guide all efforts towards improving, developing and implementing procedures, processes, measurements, systems support and maintenance. The ideal candidate will leverage their knowledge and experience to improve material flow within the facility and manage suppliers, materials and inventory consistent with a lean manufacturing environment.
Lead the team creating daily, weekly and monthly production plans. Focus on capacity planning and material requirements
Lead daily production planning meetings with manufacturing team managers
Responsible for materials flow; planning, supplier execution to schedule, timely receipts
Lead the yearly Physical Inventory audits and the daily/weekly cycle count accuracy program
Establish guidelines and measurements of inventory and safety stock levels in support of Corporate objectives, monitor inventory accuracy, supplier quality and delivery performance to identify improvement opportunities
Coordinate new product launches to meet production schedules and minimize material obsolescence
Coordinate and monitor materials deviations, providing SCC personnel with input to a new process
Manage and direct a cohesive team of Material/Production Planners and Inventory Analyst/Coordinators
Interface/coordinate with SCC personnel and production team managers to manage material changes, supplier initiatives and continuous improvement activities
Responsible for the overall maintenance, support and training of the application software (Oracle) used in manufacturing planning, receiving and inventory control processes. Advance the technical system knowledge and facilitate system transitions within the Materials Team
Lead process improvement projects at a plant level
Provide documented procedures, processes and daily/weekly performance measures to team
Responsible for the professional development of team members

years materials/production planning and inventory control experience in a repetitive manufacturing environment.
Minimum 2 years of management experience.
CPIM, APICS or other would be desirable
High level of analytical skills required for role.
ERP system knowledge required. Oracle R12 experience a plus.
Knowledge of inventory control practices.
Knowledge of MRP and various replenishment practices/systems.
Knowledge of standard commercial procurement procedures and practices.
Minimum bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field
MBA a plus.
Ability to support weekend operations during peak demand times
Occasional travel to other manufacturing facility and/or home office (3-4 times per year)
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
